Congrats again to Loretta of MA, who’s black and red ryukin recently won Grand Champion in the 3″ and over category at the New Water Garden and Ornamental Fish Show in West Springfield, MA.

Bubba, as he is known by most, also won at a show last fall. While Loretta was at the show in West Springfield, a judge told her that he has never seen a goldfish like Bubba.

Great job Bubba!

The Easter Beagle wishes all of you a happy and safe holiday.

If you’re like me, the holidays are exhausting. Making the rounds to my parents, and the in-laws begins early, usually around 9am. Although getting home tonight wasn’t so bad. We got home around 6:30pm, but with three stops, comes three full meals. Ugh. I don’t think I’m going to eat until Thursday.

In the April 2008 issue of Aquarium Fish International, the is a great article about our finned friends written by John Dawes. In the article he writes about the origins of the species, and their evolution. He also writes about the many varieties of goldfish and the story is complemented by several large and colorful pictures. He even touches on aquarium care, live plant varieties, and takes about dispelling the “1 inch per gallon rule”. All points are a great resource for beginners.

For the $3.99 cover price, the pictures alone is worth it. This magazine is available now at most big box pet stores and local fish stores.

I’ll start off with the bad news , the new fish listing will be delayed to this Saturday night, January 12th at 9pm central time. As many of you many know, GU is not my full-time job. I have been working late this week and my time in the evenings this week has been dedicated to this - the good news. I have been going through the pictures from Tung Hoi to select the new fish.
